Delta Air Lines Extends Rebooking Window and Applies Social Distancing Changes

April 17, 2020

Delta Air Lines announced it is extending its change fee waiver policy to include existing bookings or canceled travel through September 2020, as well as extending the expiration date for tickets into September 2022.

Delta customers who have upcoming travel already booked between now and Sept. 30, or those who have canceled travel from flights between March and September 2020 will now be able to change their flights into September 2022 without charge. Customers with new tickets purchased between March 1 and May 31, 2020, will be able to alter or cancel their travel plans without a change fee for up to a year after the date of purchase.

Delta also announced it would be applying social distancing changes until May 31—earlier Delta put into place certain social distancing measures in order to keep its flyers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Delta said it will be blocking the use of middle seats in Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+ and Delta Premium Select across all flights, reducing the number of customers on each flight and allowing gate agents to determine the best seating arrangements for customers considering social distancing and aircraft weight-and-balance restrictions and boarding customers 10 at a time.

They are also utilizing a high-grade, EPA registered disinfectant on all flights, a new fogging process often used by the food industry, state-of-the-art air circulation systems, more hand sanitizer, more gloves for their flight attendants, and additional sanitation procedures for inbound catering equipment at international gateways.
