Marriott Rewards to Offer United Airlines Elite Status to Its Top Members
Marriott International and United Airlines announced a new partnership under which the hotel chain’s top-level loyalty program members will be able to obtain complimentary elite status with the airline.
Members of Marriott Rewards, the hotelier’s guest loyalty program, with Platinum Premier Elite status will be eligible for United MileagePlus Premier Gold benefits, while Platinum Elite members will be eligible for Silver status on United.
Premier Gold includes complimentary upgrades up to 48 hours prior to travel, Economy Plus premium-economy lite seating at no charge, Premier Access to security, check-in, and boarding lanes, Star Alliance Gold status, and lounge access when traveling internationally.
Premier Silver status will offer complimentary upgrades on the day of travel when available, Economy Plus premium-economy lite seating at no charge, Premier Access, and one free checked bag.
The partnership is similar to the program launched by Starwood and Delta Air Lines four years ago, Crossover Rewards, which includes some benefits of status (but not the actual status) as well as the ability to earn reciprocal points and miles.
